I'll chime in: Do it! Everyone loves a road trip and there's no road trip better than one on a bike.
Do: have a good rainsuit.
Do: study the maps and know where you're going.
Do: know how many miles you get on a tank of gas.
Do: stop and stretch yours leg frequently, and enjoy the ride.
