scratched vin and no title...goin to the dump eh?
Hi i am a young and fairly inexperienced motorcycle mechanic. Unfortunately as i have recently learned, being able to rebuild an engine or a carb is a piece of cake compared to trying to make a bike legal without the most proper of paperwork. In my case i rebuilt a 1975 kz400 and was real proud when i got the baby to purr and pull with power. Then when it came to legalizing it like my previous kz400 the first problem i had was that the bike had no title. But i figured in this case i could just apply for a salvage title or something. Thats when i found out that the friend i was fixing the bike for had no bill of sale. He bought the bike off ebay and since we were new to the procedure we didnt think to ask for a bill of sale. Somehow i still had hope for this pretty old bike thinking that i could just run a bike history with the vin. Then my dreams took their final blow when i saw that the frame vin had been scratched completely off. I AM SCREWED arent I. If anybody has some sort of suggestion as to what i should do with this tragedy of a vintage bike i would love to hear about it. I live in cambridge MA and here the laws are pretty strict. I was thinking about going back to new york where i bought it and trying to see if they'll let me slip cause the bike is 40 years old. I also figured that if i could look up the engine vin i might be able to figure the frame vin and thus get it checked for a stolen history.
SO IS IT GOING TO THE POLICE...THE DUMP...CAN IT BE SAVED....
Please lemme know any ideas or possible suggestions you have thanks.
