I'll accept that up to a point. Above a certain price point, provided the helmet meets the accepted standards we use to rate them, more money does not offer more protection. Of course, that doesn't mean any old cheap helmet will do the job.
More comfort, less turbulance, less wind noise, lighter weight, better venting, easier liner or visor removal, better quality finish, less fogging - all things a more expensive helmet may get you. If you're paying more than $300 in hopes of being safer, you're deluding yourself.
Of course, comfort does play a role in safety. More comfort means less distraction, which may allow you to see and avoid a potential wreck. However, smacking your head on the pavement in a $250 Scorpion vs. a $450 Shoei isn't going to make any more vulnerable. In fact, the June Issue of Motorcyclist magazine may have shown just the opposite. Some of the cheapest helmets showed the best potential for reducing brain injury.
