I am willing to be wrong on this, just inform me how so I can get out of the corner!

The lack of backflow from the exhaust swap will lean out the fuel mixture resulting in decreased acceleration and possible "dead spots" in the power curve (too much air, not enough fuel). Re-jetting along with a new air filter in order to allow more air in on the intake side to try to even out the decreased backflow will be nominal at best. Re-jetting usually just moves the dead spot on the power curve. I have yet to see a post where a 500R owner was
completely happy with an aftermarket exhaust; the closest I've read are from Sarachu owners. Apparently adjusting the fuel mixture screws will eliminate the popping and the performance isn't affected by too much.

Live with the moped sound...it's a 500cc parallel twin and that's the only sound that you're going to get out of it no matter what you do to the exhaust. Get an exhaust when you upgrade to an in-line 4...that's what I did.
Okay, it's recess time!
