You already have a thread opened on this problem. It's not a good idea to start a new one where the other one left off or you will end up getting the same suggestions that have already been covered once.

Adjusting the float height needs to be done by the book if you don't know how to do it, not by best guess. You could wear the screws out taking that thing apart trying to "guess" at it and never get it right. Yes you probably adjusted it too far. You can press with your finger a lot harder than the amount of pressure applied by the float so the fact that it closes that way doesn't mean the valve is good. Another possibility is if your float bowl has a brass tube sticking up out of the bottom for the overflow check to make sure there are no cracks down the side of that tube.
