I've had nothing but great experiences with Cycle Gear. Most of thier managers are people who, if not currently own/ride/race bikes, they have done so to some degree in their life. Perhaps you might take a moment or two to introduce yourself to the manager of the local store to find out if you want to continue doing business there. It's no different than the mechanic you give your bike to for work.
Their return policy can't be beat. I've taken stuff back that I haven't used for 2 months after purchasing it, and they refund it no questions asked.
Glad you realize we all have bad days and make mistakes. After all, "Cycle Gear" really is two words...
