Another option is just buying a high quality magnet and glueing a piece to your existing drain plug.
I like your thinking but look at the photo how the bolt is made around the magnet. There is no way I would glue anything to anything inside my hot, oily engine. You could create a problem and suck the magnet thru the engine.

The make high quality plugs with larger magnets but there is no chance of those seperating and going thru your engine or clutch.
