The igniter almost never fails. If it does the problem is generally a bad ground or poor connections between the battery and the components of the ignition system, or bad contacts in the ignition switch. Especially if the unit is run in water or in very humid climates.

When one goes it is a good idea to remove the pulsing coil, and the ignition coils and have them tested at the same time you have the igniter tested. Never replace one without having it tested first. If an ignition coil is drawing too much power from a winding failure they will overload the igniter box and can cause it to fail.

Turning the key on and not running the Mule at the same time will also cause igniter box failures.
