Default Fuel Efficiency, RPMs, Noobish Hurdles

I've been trying to gauge fuel efficiency and stuff on my bike, so i've been riding to and from work whenever the weather is reasonable for the last 2 weeks. I'm sort of new to riding, not to mention the bike, so my "riding style" is still settling in i think.

I've had to overcome some of the usual noobish hurdles like "how to properly fill the gas-tank," which seems like a no brainer but isn't, and "how to start a fully stopped non-FI engine on reserve." (I definitely pushed the bike for ages thinking something was wrong before i figured that one out)

So, with regards to RPMs and driving styles and MPG.... i don't really know what RPM band i should be in.

What driving styles do you guys tend towards and what type of MPG do you guys get?
