A good set of metric tools(sockets, wrenches, metric allen wrenches) 1/4" and 3/8" drive ratchets and extensions, place to work on your bike,a comfortable place to sit as bending over is hard on the back and a well lit area at night are just some basic things to look for.

A oil change collection pan, some blue Loctite 242 for fasteners that want to vibrate loose, a good multi-meter for electrical troubleshooting, and some electrical contact cleaner(Not WD-40! don't ask me how I know)

Shop manuals can be purchased through dealerships so give BTK a try first. If no luck try at Repair Manual Catalog Online - RepairManual.com or at onlinefreebooks.net

A good fuel additive can be purchased at Wal-Mart for under $9 it's called seafoam Sea Foam for info.
