Agreed that just emptying a thread and noting that it was deleted and locked would be nice for those of us searching for older threads. I also don't see this as very important.

The software does have an option to auto-lock a thread after a given time. A couple of forums that I am on auto-lock after 90 days.
SOMETIMES an old thread is dredged up and it is a valid continuation of the original thread, but most of the time, it's a newbie asking the original poster a question... when the original poster maybe hasn't even been active on the forum for years.
Other times it's just someone scanning old threads and responding without thinking.
