Default petrol tank repair

tried to find a previous post on how to fix a petrol tank without welding/ braizing but couldnt find a thread... i was wondering if the metal puttys on the market that state that they can be used on petrol tanks are a good job?

I dont want to buy a secondahnd tank if possible as the gpz 600 i have is 22 years old, and i cant imagine replacement tanks being in better nick than what i have already ! plus any i have seen for sale are not the same colour. I priced a respray and they are quoting Euro 200-300.00.
thats the value of the bike .
I was going to clean the rust off the tank, use a metal putty for tanks, and respray the bottom half in red as per original.

also while i am on does any of you guys know the paint colour codes for the red and dark grey combination for the gpz 600?

many thanks,
Ger C
