Can you give a noob some information on what and where to get.

If you are close to Columbus Ohio you can actually go to Iron Pony on line and see what they have of interest, then go there to the store just off SR161 on SR3 to buy direct. This is necessary on close outs because they won't do returns. I think they have some extra large close outs, but I don't remember. You really do need to try on a coat to be sure.

Example, I went to their store and was poking around looking for a new coat. I was trying on larges - a bit too round for the mediums at this point, though my ones I have now are mediums. I went back into their close out area, which has the sizing extremes, the Ms, Ls, and XLs sell out while the others may not. I was looking at the cheap Nitro jackets for like $39/49 which they have a ton of in all sizes but always look at the good stuff like First Gear and Fieldsheers. I was looking at the First Gear Kilmanjaro Air which looked good, but was a small. It looked a bit big and there's only one way to know - try it on. The small fit me perfectly - $49 for a black/red $269 mesh coat with a windproof/waterproof liner! I tried on another model of First Gear and no way it fit. This was a fluke, the sizing was wierd but good for me. I got another in black only $59 for my brother and will be going back this week for one for his wife. (He thought I said $120 so he said get another. I saw close outs in women's sizes that would fit her - used my wife to verify it.)

If you are close to one of the on line stores with good close outs it is usually a good deal to go to the store when possible. Or if you can try one on at a place like the Cycle World shows or some races.
