We're dragging our 12 yr. old right now. He thinks we are so unfair but we want only the best for him. I really feel for today's generation because they are so soft. When they get out into the dog eat dog real world many of them are not going to be able to cope.

I think you're right in some respects. Kids today have too much STUFF. Video games, computers, cell phones, cars - you name it and most have it - and it is GIVEN to them. No earning it by doing chores and saving allowances. They don't have to be creative to entertain themselves. When I was a kid we had a TV if we were lucky and got to watch it in the evening if we had been good. For our main entertainment, we played backyard pick-up football, basketball, and baseball, dodge-ball, kick the can, hide and seek and other things that required active participation and exercise, or at least some movement. In bad weather, we read books, played board games and did things that required some thinking and use of your brain.

Sometimes I wonder if progress is really progressive in some areas.
