1. The dealer is correct. The only difference is 100 more CCs and 2 extra horsepower.
2. If you're buying new, I am unaware of any mechanical problems. The 02 models had a minor recall on the fuse for the cooling fan. You can log onto the Kawasaki website and check for recalls on the year and model bike.
