I am buying a 97 1500 classic next week. On the test drive I heard the exact same thing. Concerned me at first but it must be in the tires. I was coasting down hill on switchbacks in neutral so had no engine noise to drown out the "hum". I must of looked like a fool banking right and left for a mile but I was trying to identify where the sound was coming from. I'm convinced it is in the tires and the side treads, depending on what kind of tires they are. If anyone knows of a different reason, would love to hear it...
