I drilled my pilot jets to .040 mm, set the air screws to 2 3/4 turns out from seated, removed the shim I found under each needle and the bike runs perfectly. 4-1 Vance & Hines pipe with a cotton factory filter.
I can tell you that going to pods is going to make tuning a bit harder, but it can be done. I did pods on my KZ550. Also drilled those pilots to .040 mm and it runs like a champ.
