1980 Klx250

Hello All,

I have recently acquired my first bike and am in the process of developing my skills. I have a 1980 KLX250 and am in need of a new shift lever. I can find the original part for sale online but it will cost around $150. I was wondering if anyone knew of an aftermarket shift lever that would fit this bike and cost less money.

Search the ebay stores for Bill's Motorcycle of Salem, OR. It is a bike salvage place that only sells through ebay.

If you're talking literally the shift lever that clamps on... I'd repair the other using parts from some salvage shifter and a welder before I'd pay $150 for one.

If it's anything like the shifter on my KLX650 you can find a dozen aftermarket shifters, folding tip and all, along with shifters from other bikes that would fit. The spline count on the shifter shafts are usually a common design so numerous shifters should fit. Go to a shop and ask a good parts person to help you out.

Here is the Parts Unlimited listing on their site, $22.95. Many shops work with Parts Unlimited as a supplier or someone else who can supply similar stuff. You buy at the shop they will make sure it fits and works or you don't pay, plus no shipping over and above the cost.
