No one can answer this question with any certainty so I thought I'd ask someone "in the know".
Here's the question: Is there, (or will there be) a VN1300 (1200 or 1400) this year ('09) or are all the riders that want a little more than 900 stuck with Honda, Yamaha, or Suzuki? There's a lot of us out there. I'm very Disappointed that a 1300 was not brought out for 09. Aif

the way I see it, 1100cc's seems to be the cutoff on insurance rates, any higher, they go way up.
I have ridden the vulcan 900, and the honda 1300, plus I currently ride a Honda 1100. the vulcan out performs my Honda in every respect, and I really didnt find the vtx 1300 much of an upgrade The 900 is an incredible machine in many resepcts, if I was gonna stay with a midsize bike, that would be it. but, I want a big tour cruiser now

I guess Yamaha will get my next dollars. I'm not in the market for a bike that weighs 800lbs but I want more HP on the interstate than my 900. Kawi missed it by not filling the gap between 900 - 1700.

It is more of a mental thing with a lot of people. They often don't really stop to think that a 1300 weighs the same as a 1500 anyway. Some people buy a 1100 or 1300 and add on pipes, feul controllers, everything under the sun to get a bit more power...they could have bought the 1500 that weighs the same and has better power right out of the box.
Take my 1600 Meanstreak,a very nimble handling bike, and evidence of the above is that you see many small statured women riding them.Anyone riding a 900 Vulcan would not really notice much difference in riding it,just more power. I guess everyone likes something different, but I bet if a 1300 was built it would not weigh any less than the 1500/1600 engine platform. Just an opinion

I tried picking up a 900 that had layed down on a slight downward slope. Thing weighed so much, I couldn't lift it more than a couple of inches. Took 2 men and a woman to get it righted. Not a small bike by any means. Size and performance comparisons can definitely be made to competing 1100,1200 and 1300 models.

I understand that the 900 pulls harder than a 1500 or 1600 for the first burst, probably up to 60 mph. Many add the pullys that give you lower RPM at higher speeds and my guess a little more top end.
I also understand that you can add performance mods to a 900 that puts it close to a 1500 or 1600 stock bike. Some of you 1500/1600 people may have ridden both, I have not, just repeating what I have read on many threads over the months. My guess is the difference is in comfort and rpms at highway speeds. What type of riding do you do? Although the 1100/1200 and 1300 from others sell, the 900 is a pretty hot seller too. A few of my friends that have the 1300s said my stock bike was close to theirs but they preferred my ride! The next level is quite a bit more for little in return. The insurance on under 1000ccs is usually much less. |
