My KX125 '85 engine rebuild is almost done but I have one problem with gear change mechanism. I didn't took a photo of this mechanism before got it apart (surprise!). Otherwise I have took several photos before getting engine apart.
So I'm not sure how that big spring should be assembled on mechanism. I cannot get it working no matter how I put the spring in there. Can you tell/explain how this should be done? Is that spring in right orientation on my attachment picture?

Thanks!

Hey guys, I have a question about the vin on my 93 KX125. I purchased the bike about 6 mos ago, got a signed bill of sale, but did not check the vin upon purchase. After getting it home, cleaning it up (it was a cruddy basket case) and looking for the vin on the headstock, I found that the 13th and 14th digits have been ground off (appears to be intentional). The partial vin that I have is JKAKXRJ11PAC (or O?) _ _ 972. I know that the last 5 digits are for production numbers, so would anybody have any idea how to find out those two digits? Can I use the engine # to cross reference it in any way? That # is still intact. I have heard about using acid to reveal the impression in the metal, but what kind of acid? The grind marks are pretty deep, so I dont know. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

I bought (2) 1982 kd80's together a month ago... One runs and is restored - the other was a parts bike but it's not missing that many parts so I'm trying to get it restored and running also. The main missing pieces are an ignition coil, levers, carb float, engine cover for carb, sprocket and chain. I've been successful finding most parts on ebay but not the carb cover - If any has a lead for a good used one (inexpensive) - please let me know...

As for the clutch - I don't know much about bikes/transmissions in general - I'm new to dirt bikes..Always been a car and boat guy. I believe the transmission is intact ( I see gears through the oil fill plug) and the clutch actuator is there - but shouldn't it feel spring loaded? It just turns in and out with no spring tension... I plan to swap over the coil from my other bike to start the engine then see if it goes through the gears - but I question if it will work with the clutch like this... I have been looking on kawasakipartsnation.com and beartooth kawi to see the exploded view and it doesn't look as easy as I hoped... Anyone experienced with what might be causing this? ( I'm ready for the question, "are you sure the clutch is inside and not removed for parts"...) - The answer is "no" I'm not sure of that but if I had to guess at this point I'd say it's all there - Other parts were stripped from it but the engine looks unmolested -lol.

Hey all,

I have a 1990 KX250 and I need a output shaft for it. I got the bike recently and the former owner(s) didn't maintain well. The shaft has notches on each spline worn as deep as 1/8" where the counter sprocket engages. When you move the sprocket forward and back it's a huge amount of movement. Any suggestions? I am having trouble locating one. I purchased one, from Cycle Parts Nation, but they have emailed me and informed me that Kawasaki has discontinued that part. That has me bummed out. Please help if you can.

Thanks

Hi all. New to the forum, to dirt bikes, and really to owning motorcycles. I've ridden friends and my dad's bikes before but never got around to buying one. Well, a buddy of mine got laid off and got a job out of state. Long story short, he gave me his 1985 kx125 for $0. He said that he bought it about 2 years ago and thought that it started, but for some reason wouldn't move. He couldn't remember what the problem was. He never got around to messing with it.

I'm pretty mechanically inclined although I don't do it for a living. I do all my own work on my vehicles but generally its brakes, pumps or sensors, suspension, and the like. Usually not engine type work but I have access to people who are skilled in such things. So I think I have the skills, resources, and tools to tackle most things.

However, being new to small engines I am not 100% sure where to start on this. I have a serivce manual on order from ebay (the OEM, not the Clymer) and was planning on first doing a compression test. Assuming that is ok, I was then going to take off the carb and give it a good cleaning, drain any fluids and replace, as well as replace any filters. Then check for spark and try to start it.

Does this sound like a good start?

I know right now that I'm going to have to replace the brakes, change shock fluid (or replace), tires, and have the spokes checked to make sure they're good. I don't know anything about the transmission or clutch.

I know this is something we really don't think about when it comes to off-road bikes, but I'm wondering if anyone has a rough idea as to how far one can go with a KX60.

The loop we ride is 18 miles, I'm considering carrying a quart of pre-mix with me the first time around just in case my daughter runs her new-to-us KX60 out of gas.
Or am I being paranoid?

The tank appears to hold right around 1 gallon, I don't think it has a reserve, so you run out, you're pretty well stuck till somebody comes along with go-juice.
If it's likely to run out before say 20 miles, I'd much rather start looking for a larger tank now than when I need it next spring. So if someone has some suggestions on bigger tanks, that too would be appreciated.

Thanks.
