I am torm between picking up an older 86 Connie ( 54K on odometer) new tires, recent service, or looking for something newer like a 2006 which I saw about 400 miles away. (19K on odometer) The price difference is about $3800 with the older unit going for $1200. Since I already have 2 other Kawasakis, a 75 Z1 and a 2000 ZX12R I am not sure how much touring I will really do. My girlfriend and I are in our 60s so comfort, dependability and good handling is a priority. Maybe with the right type of bike I may really get into it.

Any thoughts from the group?

While they are entitled to their opinions, I take exception to the fact they knock this bike because of its handling. First and foremost the c14 is a super sport tourer. I happen to like the way it handles and the height makes it more athletic for me. I guess it depends on the rider and what your used to. Does it handle like a 10? No but I have a Naked bike for those types of rides. It is very comfortable for me and will run rings around most stuff out here except the litre bikes. It handles well in the mountains. I can keep up with the younger boys on the 6s and 10s. I guess it needs to cost more. You know like 26000 for a beemer. Twhite

If the ride is uncomfortable or the passenger riding position extreme, let me know now, so I don't spend the next months of winter plotting how to swing the cash for one ......

If it matters, we are both in our 40's. She only wants to feel at ease and comfortable on the bike. Gone are the days when she would jump on the back of the kz 1000 and grab on for her life ;)

This is my current setup. I have a 2006 Vulcan Nomad 1600 with V&H True Dual Baggers. I wanted to make my pipes a little louder so I removed the baffles and then the pipes were way to load with a bad echo sounds. Also sounded horrible on deceleration. SOO, I ordered a pair of Thunder Monster QQ Baffles to put into the head pipes that is supposed to quite and lower the sound of the pipes without baffles. Well it was slightly better sound but still has that echo sound. The Thunder Monstar Baffle salesman told me if I put their baffles in and are too loud, put the V&H baffles back in. Then, if their to quite, he told me to cut my V&H baffles in half. I did and now their very quite. My question is, when I cut the baffles, do I need to re-weld the other end of the cut V&H baffle to the cut end to basicly make them shorter? Or if you have any suggestions, let me know.

After we got everything back together, the engine started cutting off when applying throttle fast from idle. It didnt do this before. It also makes a pop noise out of the air intake (breather) when this happens. It will start fine as long as i feather the throttle. Any ideas?
NOTE: Im currently running cheap 10-40 Non "Energy conserving' motor oil in it to flush out the engine. I dont think that could be it.

Hi All,

I recently got a hold of a friends 2000 Vulcan nomad 1500 Fi (texas based and ridden) which he had sitting in his garage for 6 years and not started. I've worked through pulling the fuel tank, drain and clean there along with cleaning the fuel pump and flushing it out. I've put all that back, pulled the plugs and cleaned and checked their gap. Pulled and replaced the air filter oil filter and verified that the drive line had oil. I've put it all back together and it runs really bad. Prior to parking the bike he rode it a bunch and it always ran great. There were no issues that he or I am aware of. Now it will start but not idle very well and forget putting it in gear. You put it in gear and it will stall. Additionally it backfires through what sounds like the carbs. Another thing i did notice is that the idle adjustment screw/cable is hanginglose and not in the little cradle/bracket.

I'm open to any suggestions. I'm a very long distance from a dealer and don't have a trailer.

Any help would be appreciated.
