My bike is a 2006 ZX - 10 with roughly 20,000 miles on her. She was was my main source of transportation until I had a lowside crash last year . I'm Firefighter/ Paramedic in the Orlando Area & Hand Craft my own beer in my spare time which I have I a lot of due to my schedule. Also a mechanic I'm not. I'm planning on doing all the paint & body work my self. As well as all the other repairs. Also I plan on polishing the swing arm & maybe the frame. And since the bike is going to be torn down I want to adjust the valves & any other maintence issues for that many miles. Hopefully I'll be putting pictures up following my progress and being here at least 2 - 3 times a week.

Last I want extend an offer to anyone that lives in the Orlando area. If you have some work on your bike & like to drink good beer send me a PM and maybe we can work something out.

Here are some pic's of what I'm starting with. Wish the pics could be better but I took them with my phone.

Needs lots of work, but mechanically and electrically, shouldn't be anything I haven't done before, excluding the carbs.

Z1300 Shaft Drive Conversion To Chain Drive

Hello All,
My first bike was a 1970 Kaw 500 Triple; a 1973 Z1 900 and moved up to the 1980 Z1300. I have (3) and (4) spare engines. I always have had Kawasakis. One is totally original - like a museum piece - had it since new. I wanted to radicalize (modernize) one of the others.

Hello All,
My first bike was a 1970 Kaw 500 Triple; a 1973 Z1 900 and moved up to the 1980 Z1300. I have (3) and (4) spare engines. I always have had Kawasakis. One is totally original - like a museum piece - had it since new. I wanted to radicalize (modernize) one of the others.

One downside of the Z1300 is the monstrous diffential in the back with the shaft that limits the wheel rim width and tire size.

The KZ 1000 had a shaft drive model. Can anybody describe the difference between the 1000 chain and shaft drive transmissions and maybe even the compatibility of the pieces with the 1300? For me to get the answer myself, I would have to buy and disassemble a 1000 shaft drive model and a chain drive model and put it on a bench and compare it to the 1300. I dont know if I't that committed at the moment.

Any comments/photos would be appreciated ... except for those comments that simply recommend I buy a chain drive bike.

ALSO, does anybody know how Don Vesco hooked up (2) KZ1300 engines in his streamliner. I have the Don Vesco history book but it had no detail. Did he strip out one of the transmissions and convert to chain drives with an idler shaft? I assume he would have ditched that internal differential gear.

It's been 3+ years since I started my KZ streetfighter project.. a few moves and the lack of a work space has slowed things down a bit... but now I have a garage, time and mostly some funds to work on it..

I'm upgrading the front end to a nice set of '96 zx7-rr inverted forks. I started out buy trying to put the old kz stem into the new zx bottom yoke by removing the kz stem from the yoke.. but the more I looked at it, the more I didn't like the way it needed to be done so I designed my own stem.

From the bottom bearing to the top lock nut is '76 kz below the bearing and above the lock nut matches the zx. I kept the nice kz chrome bolt and washer to give the top yoke a nice finish.. a bit of the old with the new...

I had it turned from 4130 CroMo.

The assembly went together just as designed/planned, the zx fork stops match up with the kz steering lock stops as well.. they might need to be trimmed but so far they seem to be in the right spot.

I'm also designing a new top yoke with risers for 7/8" bars... I'm hoping to have them done by the end of the year.... next up after that will be to finish fitting the 916 swing arm.

FYI, If anyone is looking to do this mod.. with any type of forks, let me know.. I can make a few dimension changes and you'll be in business...

Stripped down to frame and got most things powder coated. Have Dyna coils and taylor leads, carbs have stage 3 needles, ledar sloped needle jets and 145 mains. Stainless 4 into 1 and separate SB filters. Has a GSXR 5.5 inch rear wheel zx6 front wheel. New bearings and bushes for suspension with new stanchions etc. As you can see from pic I am fitting a TRIUMPH Daytona seat unit. Today I have sorted out the zx9r clocks and adjusting the tacho so it will read the revs and fitted the double headlight fairing . Daytona seat unit subframe is now fitted so will be now be concentrating on making a new seat so is flush with the tank. Have LED rear light from a Suzuki sv to go under the seat unit

So I bought this bike from a swap meet, any ideas on what year it is? I think it is a G3ss either 1970 or 1971?? I could be wrong. As you can see from the picture it needs a LOT of work. I'm very new to this and any input would be greatly appreciated. the serial number on the engine is G8E505082. Sorry for the blurry picture. I'll post more as I start to clean it up... Also if anybody has parts for this bike, please send me an email. Thanks!
After looking at all the projects on here I just had to have a go, so I have been out and bought a 96 VN800a. Average mileage and condition and completly new territory to me. I have had nothing but sports bikes for the past 15 years so I am on a steep learning curve.

So far I am enjoying every minute. I will keep updating this thread (If I can figure out the attachment issue as I have already hit my limit). As I have enjoyed looking at everyone elses projects and there are so many cool bikes on here. So here (if it works) is what I started with and I will put a few more of work in progress later.
