Has anyone used the modular helmets that could offer some pros and cons on it?? Any recommendations on brand, etc?
I have a modular helmet from HCI. I have worn it for a couple of years and really like it. A friend of mine has two modular helmets from Zeus. They make really large 3x size.

Recently I tried to buy a replacement HCI but I didn't like it. The new helmet fit okay, but the outer diameter looked large to me. It included the sun shield.

I tried a modular from Daytona but the fit was all wrong for me. Fit okay on the sides but couldn't close the chin bar without it contacting my face. Finally I bought a Vcan helmet but it ran a little large on the inside. I gave up and kept my old helmet. Still looking.

yeah, that's the thing about helmets...they all fit different. you can find some pretty good deals online but then if it doesn't fit right, you have all the hassle of sending it back. i've tried on 3 different ones while traveling in the past couple of months and it took a different size in each brand.

I've not worn modulars, they seem heavier than full face ones to me. I'm using HJC's FS-10 FF with flip down, spring loaded sun visor. Really nice! I normally wear sunglasses so when riding into the sun it's like having 2 pairs of sunglasses. Welcome to HJC Helmets. And believe it or not, my local HD dealer was among the best prices I could find, even on the web.

I wear an HJC symax II. It is very nice. The modular aspect is handy for long stop lights and for sneaking a drink of water at a stop.

I have seen a few around here who ride with the flip up, big no-no.

They are heavier than a standard ff, generally. None of them have been tested under Snell guidelines.

The Symax II has an integral sun visor, but it is not dark enough for me. It helps, but I would like a darker one.

Just my $0.04 (inflation)

Ed

Thanks Ed! I for one really appreciate your 4 cents worth. i found it very useful. The reasons you cited are some of the reasons i've been thinking of a modular. It would seem to be very nice to be able to just flip it up instead of having to take the whole helmet off. i want one with the integrated sun shield also. i have found some nice modular ones at the local shops but i have not been able to find one with the integrated sun shield.

yep i have a sled.... it's a '93 skidoo formula plus... 580cc 2 stroke... it's very nearly as fast as my zzr600 in a straight line... handling isn't all that awesome though. it's a fun distraction through the winter, and probably as many people have sleds as have bikes up here.

i don't get to ride my sled nearly as much as i ride my bike...

I like Nolan modulars.

Although I think my next helmet is going to be one of these.

i really like the look of the BlincI....and they sell them at best buy...i never would have thought that. when i looked online at the local ones, they only listed the regular ff though, so i sent an email and asked if they could get the modular one in stock. keep your fingers crossed!~
