Default Embedding Youtube videos

It would be good to be able to embed Youtube videos directly within a post, rather than having to merely have a URL to click. It is possible on some forums.

IMHO it would not be a good thing. It just slows everything down even more than it already is. I use DSL and threads with lots of embedded pics are getting really slow to open. Folks should, again IMHO, have the option of opening videos in another page/tab rather than try to ignore the sound or have to turn off audio while trying to read or reply. Then there's folks who'd feel like they'd have to quote the OP so the video would be running 2, 3, maybe 4 different places. No sir. IMHO just link them.

OK. Embed was the wrong word.

It is possible to put a placeholder within a post which acts like a window, through which you can see the Youtube video. The FLV file isn't actually part of the post, so it doesn't need to be downloaded in order to view the thread. You just see a single screen-resolution still from the video in the placeholder area, just like you do in Youtube.

Yes, there is a simple mod to allow a youtube video to appear in a post. You would use vB Code just like when adding a pic or a link, example: [YOUTUBE]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLAHBLAH[/YOUTUBE]

It's a very simple mod, if the site admins are interested, I have it on my own site and would share it if asked.

No need to even mod is there, I thought the imbedding didn't work because html code is off, that's the only difference I see between this forum and ADVRider where imbedding works, and they both use the same forum software.

vB code is On

[IMG] code is On
HTML code is Off

On my forum site embedding a video doesn't cause it to open. You have to click on it to open or start the video so people don't have to worry when opening a post with an embedded video that it will start playing. Simple coding really.

HTML code should be off. Too many security risks otherwise. The modification I'm talking about is done in the admin control panel and it allows embedded youtube videos using vB code tags. Doing it this way there is no risk of someone using HTML code to exploit a vulnerability.

Any admin of a forum this size should be smart enough to have HTML disabled.

Not a forum admin, and the limit of my html experience is being able to type replies here. Just noticed that I was able to "embed" videos on ADVRider but not here. I know both ADVRider and Kawi use the same software so was just curious. I'm surprised they allow it over there then cause it's a bit bigger than this forum and I've never heard of any issues with it...

How crazy can it get?
