Maybe it's just me, but it seems the banners have slowed things down. I watch as the banner "pic" loads line by line and I wait for the actual forum.
On another vbulletin powered forum I visit we (users) can "UserCP -> Settings & Options -> Edit Options -> Miscellaneous Options -> Forum Skin. Set that to NoBanner, and no more banner for you. To turn them back on, select Forum Default or Default Style." Can this be made available here? |

Disclaimer: I'm not a computer person. Generally they hate me and I hate them. This is an overly simplified explanation based on what I've read at several different help sites. I think part of the problem is that at home I have my browser (Firefox) set to "clear cache on exit", so each time I log in to the forum, the banner is "new" and has to reload. Same thing with rotating banners- each time it rotates it's "new" and has to load again. I gotten around it somewhat by using Adblock. I think it comes with the free version of AdAware Spyware. Just right click on the banner and add the filter needed to block the banner. Mucho gooder this way, although it doesn't always work directly with ad banners. But be creative- if there's something you'd rather not see, like an advert, try right clicking the link for it, usually underlined and usually located near the bottom right of the ad. You'll be amazed at all the blinkie lights you can decide not to watch. |

Folks while I appreciate the technical part of your request I have to tell you I am having a bit of a struggle with the request in general. This forum since it's inception has been mostly free of advertising much unlike all of the other forums. I personally have tried to keep this forum to a bare minimum with just enough banners ads to (almost) support the cost of running this forum, as the forum grows the expenses keep rising and we are finding ourselves even with the help of good people like yourselves who help support the forum still short of keeping expenses covered. Everything about this forum is free, nobody has to pay a subscription, even though we do accept donations ( and appreciate them) we don't demand them and we would love to continue that way. So that being said we do get a bit of financial help from the two banner ads at the top of the forum and a few in the body of the threads. Now I don't know about you all but I'm thinking thats not to much of an inconvenience to keep this forum operating. I know that your request was strictly to make the forum load faster and as I said I understand that however hopefully you will understand my situation as well.
Thanks for your time and for your support. Kawi |

- time: as the banner gets more and more detailed, sure it looks nice but it takes longer and longer over time to load, even with my DSL connection. - space: at home I use a laptop. I don't have the luxury of multiple monitors or even one big one. The banner takes up about 25% of the screen. |
