Default RSS feed

As more and more custom home pages -- google, yahoo, MSN, MyWay, etc -- allow RSS feeds, it would be really nice to have one for this site. Sure does make it easy to see new posts from your home page.

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a lightweight XML format designed for sharing headlines and other Web content. Think of it as a distributable "What's New" for web sites. But it's not just for news. Pretty much anything that can be broken down into discrete items can be syndicated via RSS

For example, I belong to a few forums and have been able to add their RSS feeds to my google home page. That way I can see the latest posts from these forums right on my home page. See for yourself below - it's very slick. Notice the content on the right, spcifically the st-owners.com forum - I can see the most recent posts and click there to go to a specific post or to the site. Many sites are creating an RSS feed since it normally increases traffic to the site.

We are going to hold off on trying to do an RSS feed at the moment, but just so you know, its not off the table. There are a lot of projects going on for this forum right now, and they are taking priority.

Thanks for the update, Freakinout.

My experience with RSS in the administration of other boards is that (with Vbulletin anywys) it is just a matter of turing on the switch in the Admin Config:
Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> External Data Provider

It really is a great way to get people coming to the board, and increasing repeat visitors, which is why RSS has gained so much popularity on community sites.

Hi Freakinout! Was just wondering if the RSS feed was still on the table. Sure would be nice to get this site's feed on my Google home page. Just about every forum site I belong to now has a feed - pretty please?

I turned it on, no idea what you have to do to make it work though.

Thanks! I'll try to find the default URL for vBulletin feeds - it should be something like http://www.kawasakimotorcyles.org/fo...l.php?type=rss If I find the feed, I'll post it up here.

kawasakimotorcycles.org RSS Feed: http://www.kawasakimotorcycle.org/fo....php?type=RSS2

Works great! Now I can see the 10 most recent posts right from my home page! Yippee!

Thank you Freakinout!

(back from the dead, and bumping for anyone who might be interested)

awesome, i'm very glad i found this...
just got a new HTC Touch HD phone and it has a RSS facility... tried seraching everywhere for one on this site, then found this thread

i know they get updated rapidly with all the quick posts, but hopefully i'll still be able to amuse myself and catch up with what's going on while 'on the move'
