I'm getting closer in my search for my first Brute Force. I'm looking for some more advice. I have found a mint condition 08 with only 100 miles comes with a sweet looking ITP tire wheel package the guy would take $5800.00 cash. Only thing I don't like about it is the plain green color.
Next option is a shiny black 07 750 in very good condition with about 850 miles. Has a few very minor surface scratches which you’d expect from trail riding. This quad has skid plates, including front and rear A-arm guards, 2500# Warn winch with 60” moose plow, 14” ITP aluminum rims with 27” ITP Mudlites with about 75-85% tread left. The guy says he has all the paperwork for it including owner’s manual, title, and various miscellaneous booklets and instructions that come with it new. He says he's the second owner & has only put 100 miles on it. He is asking $5800 & would probably take $5500.00. He also claims there is a warranty with about three years left on it but wasn't sure about it. Here's my dilema...I could also buy a brand new leftover 08 for $6500 tax free with a 12 month warranty. The downside is the stock wheel/tire package & lack of extras the used ones are selling with....not to mention the extra $$. As for the 07...is the 08 that much better? How much of a difference is the EFI vs. the carbed model? What would you guys do? WHat do you recommend asking about & what do you look for on these brute forces when you buy used? Any advice would be appreciated. |

The choice as to which to buy really becomes a personal decision. If you ride in a location that has significant differences in temperature over the course of the riding season, or you ride where you have great differences in altitude, the fuel injection automatically compensates.
The carb model is simpler, but neither is really designed for the owner to do much more than routine service. They both take diagnostic equipment to ascertain problems. As for determining what to look for in the evaluation, that is tough. These are nearly as expensive as a Jeep, and as technically complicated. Therefore, you need to treat the evaluation process as you would with any vehicle that is intended for rough recreational use where you do not want to end up walking home from the boonies. The big ATV's also attract a lot of guys that can wear a 2 ounce shot glass as a full hat, and still have it fall over their ears; so keep in mind how it was used and what kind of person owned it before you. One thing to keep in mind is that all it takes to ruin a carb equipped model is to go plow snow in really cold weather where the air is dense, and they run lean and score the pistons from a lean mixture if the carburetors are not jetted correctly for the temperature and engine load. As far as color, most guys I know want the green for hunting, and hunters tend to take better care of their equipment because they have had to walk thirty or more miles because of equipment failure at some time in their hunting lives, and they do not want to do it again!

RCW thanks for the great response! Great point on the possible issues with the carb models could have. I would like to buy a nice used 08. I have been having a hard time finding a good deal. I have found the machine I'm looking for...just the price seems high.
I have never bought used before...so I really don't know what's a fair price & what's not. $5800 seems a bit high to me...what would you guys pay for a mint condition used 08 BF 750? The machine comes with ITP ss108 rims & Mud Lites. |

Having a tough time making my mind up. Turns out the 07 BF 750 has a warranty that lasts till 11/10/2011. The quad is in great shape...mechanically sound. It's hard to pass up all the extras that come with the 07. The only reason why I'm leaning more toward the 08 is the low hours & EFI. Other than that the 07 is a no brainer! What would you guys do?
2007 BF 750 850 miles ITP tire wheel pkg, 60" moose plow, full skid plates & a-arm guards, warn winch...everything in great shape, warranty till 11/10/2011. $5500.00 2008 BF 750 28 hours ITP ss108 rims with mud lites plus original tire/rims...no winch or any other extras maybe a few months left on the warranty. $5800.00 Tough decision...is the newer rig with EFI & hardly any hours a better decision that the 07 with all the extras? I hope to make a decision within the next day or so. Any advice appreciated? |
