Default help me with my 89 bayou 220

i just bought this on sat for 150.00 and it wont start the guy i bought it from said that it would turn over but it would back fire he said he thought it was the timing so he said he set the timing and now it has lost compression what should i start with??????? i dont think the timing is right i turned it over and the tdc does not match with the mark on the top of the motor at least i dont think it does just to make sure the mark is on the top of the casing right?? please please someone help me i konw how great and how stronge these bikes are and i need it for hunting season.

A very common issue with one that age is the woodruff key that keeps the flywheel aligned to the crankshaft for timing is stripped. It a a couple dollar fix, just pull the flywheel and inspect the key to see if it is chopped in half or missing.

Other than that, my suggestion is that you do a valve adjustment, disassemble and clean the carburetor, and check the cam chain tension.

No compression and backfiring is usually the Woodruff key, though.

thank you i will try that how do i keep the motor from turning over to get the bolt out

Stick some rope down the spark plug hole to stop the piston.
