I did some looking on hear and could not find this has ever been talked about.
Was wondering what type of oil people are using in there diesel Mules. I read in the manual that is takes regular 10w-40. Semes to me it would be better to use a good diesel oil in a diesel. I just do not think gas engine oil would be as good in a diesel. I was thinking of using 15-40 Rotella as I have lots of it around for the tractors. Thanks for any input! |

hey dude rotilla is a good choice ,delvac is good too. with lucas addittive it shuold last almost forever and endure the expected work load. however the factory recomended oil spec should not be totaly disregarded.I have seen the inside of big deisels with a million miles on them that had the obove oils in them with lucas and the inside was in outstanding in condition the engine did not need rebuilt it had a busted gear that required engine dismantel. now after spending alot I use inexpensive oil with lucas addittive in every thing. the deisel oils have an additive in them that did not have to be removed by law cuase deisels are less polluting however gas engine oils no longer have this additive cuase they generate more pollution this additive is what made the oil slick. now the need for synthetics is more demanding due to this and tight clearances in new engines. I hope I may have helped you. madmax

The diesel Mule uses a SAE CF or CF-4 10-40 oil. The CF or CF-4 designation is a diesel rated lubricating oil.
The newer Rotella T is a CJ-4 for the engines with particulate filters and not suitable for regular diesels.

Thanks all!
Would the 15-40 Diesel oils be ok? I can not find 10-40 diesel oil around hear for any thing. I would just stick with the kawasaki oil but I am over 1.5 hours away from the dealer. I use ether rotella or ford New Holland 15-40 in all my tractors. With of corse a good dose of Lucas. I would think 15-40 would be ok, just a little thick in the winter. Thanks to all for the help! |

I use John Deere's Plus 50 15-40, and it works great clear down to 40 below F.
