I thought I had a bad rear seal but upon inspection I found the tin plug in the end of the cv joint had dislodged and was letting the engine oil leak out FAST.
I have tried twice to seat that cap but it keeps dislodging. Does anyone have any solutions or know where I can find an after market cv joint that doesn't cost $400.00? Last edited by Bowhunter 1 : 09-16-2009 at 08:17 PM. |

looking at the diagrams the bevel gear appears to be similar to the one on my bayou 220 so the dust cap inside the cv joint should have no effect on sealing in engine oil. You are probably right with your first assumption in that you have a bad seal. The tin cap just serves to keep the grease sealed in the cv joint. The cv joint can easily be rebuilt though so no need to spend $400.
