Default need advice on prairie 300 carb

I have a 99 prairie 300 that is missing the carburetor. Should i look for a replacement kawasaki carb, or something else. i read on here about the trx carburetor, but that was on a bayou not a prairie, will the trx carb work on the prairie also? any help will be greatly appreciated, the kids are getting tired of waiting on me.

There are two carburetors worth considering, Mikuni or Keihin. The Keihin is OEM to Kawasaki and Honda, and is actually manufactured by Honda.

The key to finding a carburetor that will work properly is the size of the carburetor venturi and the proper jetting for your application.

If I am speaking Greek, then I would recommend you just purchase a new OEM carburetor from Kawasaki. It will save you a ton of pain.

If I am not speaking Greek, then you now know all you need to select a replacement carburetor.

As far as quality of carburetors go, I prefer the Mikuni. It has replaceable needle seat and valve for the float. The Keihin carbs are a throw away if the float needle seat is damaged or worn out. Used Keihin carburetors are almost always a waste of money as the seat is damaged and some one is looking for a sucker. Used Mikuni carburetors always sell for a premium, but you have to watch for bad diaphragms and other costly parts that could easily put you at the new price by the time they are replaced.

i like mikuni's they are so much easier to set up and repair.but look around on the net youll find places that sell complete carb oe(original equipment) style for a pretty low costs.stay away from ebay carbs ,like rcw said they look for suckers that dont know much about the keihin float needle seat issues-corey-

Default thanks for the info.

Thanks for all the information. I finally got hold of the guy who tore down the bike originally and he had the old carb setting under the workbench in a box. I think i am going to start with it since i already have it and if i cannot get it to work then try another, again, thanks.
