Question Mule Governor adjustment

Just wondering if anyone that has done the governor adjustment to their Mule for added speed has news to offer. I have tried it out and know I can get more speed, but have gone back to the factory adjustment again since I have not heard from anyone else on how their Mule is holding up with the adjustment. I am not one to run the Mule at full throttle all the time, but just wonder if with the adjustment for more speed how long, miles, hours, I might be able to run it if well serviced without injuring my engine.

I guess my question is really, I ride my Mule about a mile or two a day, not at full throttle for the whole two miles , but will I hurt it if I drive it two miles a day just on level ground with the higher adjustment.

That is a tough question.

I used to do the governor mod all the time, then ended up walking for more than two days out of the brush and swamps of Alberta during moose season because of a blown engine.

I decided I never wanted to walk that far again, so now run stock.

If you run correct and clean oils, keep the valves adjusted, do not let the clutches get out of tolerance, run a belt that is within the specified tolerances, and never exceed the maximum designed engine red line, it should be fine. But, that is what I was doing too!

My 610 was making 23MPH on GPS, I modified the governor and got it doing 31 MPH, maybe with a little more modification it may have even gotten a mile or so more. Figured I would hurt it leaving it that way so I brought it back down to where I think it should be, factory specs say 25 MPH, Still not on original setting but hope this is so close it will not hurt it, what is your opinion, This is my first Mule so don't want to blow it up before I can enjoy it a while.

I do not have the engine rating rpm's at my fingertips, but as long as you stay below the maximum rated rpm you should be OK. No guarantees though, as you are putting additional stress on the clutches and if they are not kept serviced you can snap a crankshaft or simply cause the drive clutch to explode.

Danny you have an entirely different mule than a 610 aircooled single cylinder engine. Just leave the govner stock and the 4000 Mule will last longer. You don't want to void the warrenty, now, do You?

Hello Okieduc104. Thanks For The Reply. No Problem With The Warranty, It Ran Out Last Week. The Mule Will Only Run 22 Mph Per The Gps. I Very Seldom Run It Full Throttle, If At All, But Would Like To Know I Had Plenty Of Speed If I Needed It.
Thanks

Please be advised that the advertized top speed for the Kawasaki Mule with the 620 twin cylinder 4 stroke engine is 25 MPH!and that the Mule is a service utility vehicle designed to carry a load at a safe speed and last a long time in the field or pasture with it's long life, reliable industrial engine and heavy duty chassis. If you want an ATV with a higher forward ground speed you may want to check out the 4 wheelers, Kawasaki has some speedy ones, along with other ATV manufactors.

So guys:
Is the actual purpose of the governor to protect the engine? ...or... to keep the land speed down because of tipping hazards related to the size, shape, suspension, etc that is unique to a Mule?
Your thoughts?

I would say yes to protect the engine from overspeed.
