What was the reason for changing it in the first place, that may tell us a lot?

Was it changed with an offset key to advance or retard it?

Or did it somehow break, causing the quad to die, and requiring its replacement?

never mind northernman i fixed it i had a bind in mt timming chain and the motor wouldnt turn over so i had to take it apart again and get the bind out of the timing chain than had to put it all back together and now everything it working fine............... the reason i had to take it apart in the first place was because the woodruff key sheared off

Thats common, I thought you said it was special.
Some have used, although not common a 13/16.
I have a near museum piece old Mercury 292 sled that has a 13/16 plug size.
