Default 2002 Bayou 220 Questions

I just picked up a little bayou and I need some advice. I am looking for 2 used parts. Olive tool box cover and Rear rack.

Auto clutch question. Is it normal for the ATV to move slow when starting? It seams like I have to give it a lot of gas to get it going.

Valve seals, are they hard to change???? She smokes a little.

Default congratulations on your find

well on the auto clutch on these things consist of a primary clutch and a secondary clutch primary is centrifugal much like you find on a topical yard kart the secondary is like a standard motorcycle clutch if your atv should move until throttle is applied you do half to give them good bit of throttle to get them moving once it moving you can let off a bit with the clutch engaged valve seals on the other hand if its not a rolling barbecue Id ride it keep a check on your oil this would be pretty large job along with some special tools

i agree with smoke i just finished fixing my 220 bayou and it was a pain just to get it timed and getting the timing chain back on but i did it just have to wait to see if it starts now but back to your question if you are having a rough idle put it in neutral and have it runing hold the throttle and take some carb cleaner and spray in the intake but dont spray alot this will clean some of the carb off the valves and than they should seat in again

for the clutch you may want to get a manual and adjust it. it should take off with little throotle effort, but hold still while idleing.the quick thing i can recommend is change the oil useing a 10w40w wet clutch oil,or motorcycle oil.not regular motor oil for it does not have modifiers in it like the motorcycle oils that use wet clutchs.regular oil will cause slipage and quick wearing on on the friction plates and steels. that prolly the first thing id do is change the oil run it for a about 8 -10 hrs and then change it again.

as for the smokeing i agree with the above wait till it starts fouling plugs out with oil .because if it were me id rebuild the whole top end ,new piton ,rings vavles and gudies and seals. just be done with the whole thing so you will have to ever mess with it again for like 10 yrs if takein care of.

as for the rack and cover try ebay for those items and see what tehy have

that may solve the issue .but if not at least you change the oil and filter to rule that out as the problem.-corey-

I got the oil changed and put in a new spark plug. Did not see much of a difference. Old oil filter looked like crap. I did not remember the correct way to replace the oil filter cap. One the inside it had a cup for the filter shaft. Does the open slot go up or down?????
