maybe the "red is faster" factor?

I've not seen that before. However, we all want to know why you're rebuilding a 2006 model! ;-D

The color coding is for standard and undersize options, as determined by the finished size of the crankshaft throws after machining.

When you do rebuild one of these be sure to follow the manufacturer's guidelines for turning the crank. Any good motorcycle machine shop or Kawasaki dealer will have these and then will be able to tell you the size bearings you will need.

If the old bearings were scuffed at all, it will be necessary to carefully mic the crank throw and make sure it is perfectly round and within tolerances. If not then have the crank turned or you will cough the new bearings very quickly. If the old bearings were not scuffed, and the crankshaft is not damaged, then reuse them exactly where they were installed in the first place.

Im installing a new crank and rods. Its hammering pretty good. I "loaned" it to my cousin and she and her friend soaked in the mud and kept running it.

If you have the $399 for the crank and rods (and need the rods) That's probably not a bad deal.

I tell you who you need to call (because he specializes in KFX700 engines and probably has the parts on the shelf) Mickey Dunlap of Welcome to Four Stroke Tech.net!. He rebuilt my Prairie 400 crank for me and had it back in a week. The LDS wouldn't even touch it...

I am skeptical of anything that is not guaranteed new OEM on ebay. I have just seen to many guys show up with ebay special parts that are the same quality as used toilet paper! I have to throw them away and start over, and then usually have to repair the damage the junk parts caused in addition to what was originally broken.

On the higher performance engines the additional damage can add a thousand or more to the price of a repair. The good deal turns in to a real sewer frog.
