Default 02' Prairie 650 Battery Issue

Im looking for some guidance here, anything will be better than what I know.

On my prairie 650, I have installed a brand new battery. Within 3 ride on the battery it was completely dead. I can fully charge it and it will be dead again the next day. Any suggestions? I would guess that it was the stator, but it will go dead without me even riding it. Possibly grounding out somewhere/

Please help me with this.

Thank You in Advance...

I believe the 02 has a diagnostic port. If so, take it to the dealer and pay for the diagnostic to locate the problem. It is far quicker than doing it with a multimeter.

If you want to do it yourself, your best bet is to disconnect the battery and all the electrical accessories and start diagnosing the wiring and components with a good digital multimeter.

Carefully follow the service manual instructions for checking the solid state components so you do not damage them, but everything else is just a matter of looking for continuity and ruling out shorts or open circuits.

I would guess you will locate the problem yourself within just a few hours to maybe a couple of days, based on your confidence level.

Check to make sure the voltage regulator is plugged in. It is located above the right rear wheel. It is the black box with fins on it. I have seen them being unplugged before. If you ride in alot of mud the weight of the mud hanging on the wires will unplug the connector.

Yes, the reason for the battery replacement was that it would not hold a charge. The exact same thing that this one is doing.
