I prefer the diesels for their power and durability. But, I also have gas versions that do just great, but am slowly sending them to new owners and replacing everything with diesel.
The choice really gets down to two things, what can you afford and how hard is it going to be used? Now days the significant advantage to diesels, other than twice the fuel economy, is that they can sit around for months on end if you use good fuel with just battery maintenance, then they crank right up and go to work. Gas engines need fuel stabilizer and battery maintenance, and then you may still have carburetor problems. Safety is another concern. If I were to store a Mule in a shop where there was a pilot light furnace or water heater, I would only go with diesel. The same goes with farming and use around burning and fires. Diesel is simply safer. The gasoline we have now days contains so many volatiles that normal evaporation can create explosive fumes quite easily.
