Default break issues

hi i have a 1986 kawasaki bayou 300 kf3.
i went to change my break yesterday on the back and could not get the hub off to get to the breaks any ideas? i took off all the bolts in and around the hub and on the shaft itself and still no luck. any help would be great.

Have you bled the brakes yet? Drum brakes? The drum is going to have a ridge because of the shoes wearing on the drum. Is there an adjuster for the shoes on the back side of the hub? If so you'll need to adjust it to where the shoes collapse. might need a hammer to tap the drum loose. maybe your brakes are adjusted by cable? If this doesn't help, sorry, never owned an ATV, but maybe this will give you some idea of what needs to happen basically.

hello that reverse to first and skippin (n) that happens if the idle is set to high. these are touchy to get in to (n) any ways.most of the time id shut my wheeler down and then put into (N) and restart because it would skip over (N) even trying to do this with your hand is tough.

as for the brakes loosen the adjuster wing nut on the back of the backin plate and you will have to use a hammer to to help you get that drum off.
DO NOT BEAT IT HARD YOU WILL CRACK THE DRUM!!!!!!just use nice firm taps on the middle of the drum while useing a flat blade srew driver inbeteewn the backing plate and the drum and pry out wards while firmly smacking the drum and itll start to walk off the shoes untill you pass the rust ridge on the inside of the drum.

let us know when you get the drum off i got more steps to do after that drum is off on how the prep the drum back into shape.-corey-

The one thing to do would be to have your drums dressed and the new shoes shaped to the drum, but that could be expensive. new drums and shoes might be costly also. old drums not dressed will wear your new shoes down rather quickly. Can't help with the tranny thing sorry.would be good to be wealthy.

when i took the breaks off the left back wheel the breaks where brand new but coverd in oil so they weren't engaging properly also the axle bushing was gone replaaced it, also the leaver that move's the breaks was seized but is now unsiezed, only problem now is with the gearing, usually you have to turn the knob on the handlebars, but now you can go right into reverse without turning it, also the gearing is very touchy, you can skip gears? any idea's what ging on?

these are touchy shiftin bikes .but as for the reverse knob make sure the cable isnt broken and causein the revese paw not to ingage.some times the cable will break and hold that paw open.

but if you look on the left side down by the shifter on the bottom ther will be a lever with a cable ,that is your revese lever.turn the knob and see if it moves the lever.post back your finds .

my ole bayou had an issue with that knob but i never got to lookin at it,i just rode on and pay attention to what gear i was in so i didnt hit revrese while goin forwards.-corey-

the problem turned out to be a gear looking washer and a key thing inbetween the 2 gears
