First off, "Hello" to everyone here on the forum. As you have seen before, the first post is a tech. question, albiet an easy one, I hope.
My 1986 KLF300 Bayou 2wd has a starter issue. Starter seems to have plenty of snap but either kicks out harshly or possibly the chain is slipping. I pulled the big cover off to expose the chain and it is hanging low enough that it rubs on the cover a little bit. So, the question, can I get the chain off by simply removing the phillips-head screw that holds the flat retainer thingy or do I pull the starter from the other side? BTW, my Dad bought this Kawi new in 1986 with the money he was going to save by quitting smoking. He has since gotten a newer one but I kept the old one. I love it and want to keep it going. Also, about a tablespoon of oil came out when I took the cover off, what should I put back in and how much? Thanks in advance for the help. |
