SOOO.. Saturday it rained and rained and rained here.. I was getting antsy so I suited up and jumped on the Bayou and headed out down the trail out back.. Last time I was out there was last year and it was in my Jeep and I think I had to winch.. Anyway long story short. Got stuck and had to winch through, on the way back I went right because I got stuck on the left on the way through.. I almost ended up over the bars.. got the cable out and the winch was a no go.. (I think it shorted out since it was under water).. I walked back home and got online to the local atv site and found a guy down the road that was willing to coem get me out. He should up with a 800 Can-am, I new I was in good hands..
Here's the result.. ![]() ![]() So.. I've cut he mounts off and I'm making a new bracket and mounts for the winch and bumper.. |

So I need some input. I did abit tonigh but didn't want to get carried away. I haven't ordered the winch yet but I figured I should have it here before I get to carried away..
Here you can see where the factory brackets let go.. you can also notice the serial # on the frame on the righ hand side.. ![]() I decieded to weld another piece on the other side even it out Because I liked the idea of having alittle more support. I lost my serial # but I'm not to worried about it.. ![]() Next is the bottom plate I plan to weld on and then the top plate which will bolt to the exisiting hole in the top rack. ![]() ![]() Last picture is roughly where I'd like to the bumper end up.. ![]() The plan as of now is to drill holes in the bottom so I can mount another plate to it. This plate will be contected to the new top plate which is bolted to the top rack. I'll then make some sort of bracing the the new winch and the old bumper can bolt on.. any ideas? comments? |

FrankenKawasaki. It's starting to look like my Prairie 400...which is a very good thing. >
The only thing I can recommend is to try and keep the weight down. Obviously it's not a huge quad and all the weight you add to the bumper is hanging totally off of the front which is going to affect your handling directly. Try adding strength without excess weight so take a look at the factory bumper and think of the hit it took to break it. Trim your flat iron going across the top and bottom to cut out some weight. Once you start fabbing up the winch mount (and that winch is heavy too!) you're going to start really adding that weight on the front. |

lookin good . are you goin to mount the winch flush with the top of the bumper?or run it through the bumper?
if it were me id mount it on a plate flush the top of the bumper.one itll make easyier to release that cable. and two you can run the wirein higher up and come out through that plastic piece under the handle bars and make the connection there.high and some what dry lol. the rack you have now take a piece of tubein that matchs and notch it to fit the rack and then notch the other end to fit your bumper. make a flat piece of steel the fits your winch .and then weld you tubes you made to the rack and the bumper put your flat steel down and weld that to the new pipes.then just bolt that new winch in and wire her up.the winch sould be on an angle down ward by what i see in height diff beteewn the rack and the bumper and should allow any water mud etc to run out.instead of sittin in there gummin up the works. just an idea , to save the winch and the wirein. remember triangles are your friend. the more you can get the stronger itll be and not so much steel is needed for strength.an ole fabricator tought me this sayin and it hasnt failed me yet |

The bumper on my Bayou is shot too. The third tree I hit was the last straw. I need to make a new one.
