Default 96 Kawasaki Bayou 220 Electric Start

    Hello
I just picked up a 96 Kawasaki Bayou 220. It starts no problem with the pull start, but wanted the option of electric start. I pulled up the seat and orders some parts. I got a new relay, a used starter selinoid, new battery and new battery leads. well after charging the battery and hooking up the wires put a new 20amp fuse in. I go to push the starter button and nothing, the lights don't even turn on. someone told me to test the start selinoid (since it was used). So I connected the pos wire of the meter to the pos pole on the battery and I touched the neg on the selinoid I got no reading on the 2 connectors (hot to relay) closer to the noid and then I got 12.5v reading on the 2 (hot to switch)outer connections. Did I test it right? Do I have a bad selinoid? Am I missing something? Would this stop the lights from working? Please help.

    Thanks

Sort of sounds like you are trying this without a service manual. Not a good idea, as you can fry the igniter and pretty much exceed the value of the ATV by the time you complete repairs.

Go to Kawasaki.com and follow the Owner Info to the parts diagrams. Take a look at the Chassis Electrical Equipment slide and the Starter Motor slide. There are two solenoids, both have to be functional as does the key switch.

If the solenoid in the Starter Motor slide is bad you will blow the fuse for your main power supply. If the solenoid on the Chassis Electrical Equipment slide is bad you will get no power anywhere, just like blowing a fuse.
If toys will get me in the door when it is time to go, I have it made!
