    Default Newbie with newbie questions

I just got a prairie 400 4x4. It runs pretty good, when I was checking the fluids I noticed they were all low. What type I gear oil does the rear end take? Do you fill it till it runs out the plug? What kind of engine oil and front diff gear oil? Can you use car fluids? Where do you purchase parts for these? It needs a shifter handle and a tune up. I'm new to four wheelers but I'm a car mechanic so I'll be doing the work myself. Thanks for the help, Tyler.

Go to Kawasaki.com and follow the Owner Info tab to the parts diagrams. Along the way you will see the selection for a PDF file of specifications. That file usually contains the fluid capacities and required fluids.

In most cases the front differential gear oil will be GL-5 for limited slip differentials, and automotive oils that meet that specification or better will do just fine.

Engine oil on the models with the torque converter belt drive can be high quality automotive oils.

Most parts are still available through either the Kawasaki dealers or through the aftermarket. While Kawasaki is notorious for discontinuing specific model parts after the seventh year following the manufacturing date, many of the Prairie components were common across a number of model years and are still available.

Ebay can also be a good source for parts like the shifter handle and such.
