    Default brute force 750 questions

A friend asked me for some help on his machine. He tells me that it will not go into 4 Wheel Drive and the speedometer doesn't work. I have not been over to look @ it yet. Just wondering if there are any "common problems" that cause this on these machines.
    Thanks in advance

The actuator for the front wheel drive is problematic, lot of info here and a lot of BF owners as well.

Thanks for the link. I did a quick look at some of the info and it looks like the speed sensor needs to be functioning to allow 4wd to enguage. So it looks like the speed sensor could be the culprit causing both problems.

Common. Usually the sensor is broken or knocked out of the hole (or just plain busted) by debris entry above the skid plate. It's in a pretty crappy location if you ask me and not protected all that well.

BTW 4x4 won't work if the speed sensor is out, the forward-reverse detection sensor is out, the EBC has a problem (engine brake controller), the CDI, wiring, 4x4 switch, 4x4 actuator, engine brake actuator, or sometimes the meter itself will cause problems too.

WAAAY overcomplicated...should have been a cable operated 4x4 or even a Yamaha-style actuator (which I have only seen ONE failure since 1997 with the Grizzly 600).

Sounds like Kawi's engineers had quite a bit of extra time when they designed this model. I still haven't seen his machine, but my bet is going to be on the speed sensor.
    Thanks for the info.
