On the left side of the motor, on the cylinder there is a piece jutting out. It has 3 bolts on it, 2 hold it on, 1 is the tensioner bolt. It is on top. Just loosen that bolt, and you should hear the tensioner snap onto the chain. If it doesn't it has already been adjusted or the tensioner is stuck like mine was.

well zeek123 there is a cap on the left side of the engine on the top right beside the pull starter take a quarter and remove it turn the engine over till you see a line with T on it line it up with the line on the hole remove the timing cover two 8 mm bolts on the head there should be a dot on the cam cog the dot should be strait up when the crank is on T
if it did jump time there a good possibility there is a bent valve though that's what happen to mine

In the chance that there is a valve bent in there not that big a deal only thing that might be a problem is a valve spring compressor i modded my automotive compressor for it the valves are not that bad exhaust valve $26.00 and intake valve $36.00 lap them in and you'll be set but make shore that its is out of time and set it and try starting first there may be enough clearance that this didn't happen

yes unfortunately you do but its not as scary as it sounds tools you need are common except for torque wrench, valve spring compressor, impact driver, if the timing is of there has to be a cause make shore you timing Chain tensioner is working properly or the tensioner may be max out meaning the chain is excessively worn and needs replaced. let me know how it goes or if you run into problems

no all the work can be done with the engine in the frame I will not lie its tight getting the head and bolts out but with the tank off remove the upper motor mount off it can be done Im thinking that your model has a auto adjuster which is spring loaded If the chain has slack in it there is two bolts hold adjuster to the cylinder but 1 vertical bolt loosen this bolt watch for the slack to leave the chain (this bolt does not allow the adjuster to over extend) if slack in the chain goes away when the bolt is removed it will need a chain

good luck

Ive learned from past experience wiring on atv and or dirt bikes can get confusing very quick mysterious boxes here and there get your timing set give it a try make sure you have have compression long as you cdi box, and pick up has not been hacked up it should run if not chase the wiring Id get it running and work from there
