Default bayou 220 won't start

I just bought a 220 bayou that didn't run. The first thing I checked is spark and it is getting good spark. So I sprayed a little starting fluid in and put the spark plug back in and no start. The starter is not working also but the solinoid is making a buzzing sound so I'm geussing its bad. Please help..

The guy I bought it off of said they were riding it and it just died so they left it in the field and never messed with it.

Is the timing chain moving when you pull the start cord ?

with the starter problem it could be a bad earth the buzzing sound you hear is probably the solenoid, make sure you have a fully charged battery and follow the earth lead back to the frame, take the bolt out and sand frame where the terminal sits, there may be other earth wires too, I know on the klf400 the wire is red and yellow

Hope this helps

Ok I figured it out. The bolt was loose on the cam. The starter was jacked up the field was loose and there was no brushes. Then they had the starter wire attached to a bolt so every time I tryed to start it was grounding out But after I got it back together it fired up So I'm looking for a starter now if anybody has one..

brushes are availble at your local electric motor/starter shop for about $14. have them install them. There should be several fiber washers under the stud for the positive cable to prevent arcing. Also make sure there is an o ring on the stud to insulate from the case; 50 cents at the hardware store

It would take to much to rebuild this one. The field was loose in the stator and was attaching itself to the armature. The stud was missing for the lead. They said at the parts house 15$ for one brush but I just won a auction on ebay for 30$ for a whole starter that came off a 98. Thanks for the help. Ps. I'm a electric motor mechanic so if anyone needs any help with that type of stuff holla at me.

Hi maxr78, I'm a newbie with a 220 with electric starting problems and I'm trying to troubleshoot the starter and solenoid. When I hit the starter button their is a clicking sound and occasionally you hear the starter trying to crank a kind of waah..................waah......waah sound but nothing. I have charged the battery, but I am not sure about the locations and identifiction of the electrical components to clean and/or replace. Any help would be appreciated.

Bayou 220 won't start. It's getting a white jumping spark and plenty of gas. Even changing batteries, coil, plug, CDI doesn't do anything most of the time. If it does start and dies you have to wait several minutes then it may start right back up. It's the initial start that is the problem.

Bayou 220 usually won't start. Getting a white jumping spark and plenty of gas. I've changed the coil, CDI, plug. and even the battery. Sounds like it's not turning over fast enough even with a new battery or a jumper battery connected. If it does start and dies you have to wait several minutes then it may start right up but if it doesn't then save your time trying. Any ideas?

sounds like you need to clean the carb.take it all apart and soak the carb in a good carb cleaner for a day or two.use compressed air to blow out all the passages and little holes.but only use a max of 5 -10 psi of air for you dont want to blow the carb apart.

also may want to check the compression .weak compression can give you fits.hope this may help out alittle -corey-

I had cleaned the carb twice before but guess "three is the charm" after all because it runs great now. Also found out the battery was a little weak and not letting it turn over fast enough to start. Appreciate the help.
