Default Mule 3010 Gas Governor

I got a request to see pics of the gov adjustments I have done. With this adjustment I was able to get about a 10MPH gain. Now my mule goes 38 MPH according to the GPS. Fairly simple adjustment, I drilled a new hole on the gov arm and moved the existing spring to the new hole, 3/4 of an inch. Made one adjustment to the idle screw to lower it so as not to grinds the gears while shifting.

Good job, it keeps the limitation and allows for the soft ECM governor to surge the throttle when you hit the limiter.

If you do not care about keeping some ability for the engine to self-regulate according to load you can accomplish the much same thing by just using a nylon tie or bent wire link to tie the two arms together.

Watch your front end for any looseness or tie rods that are about to fail, and remember your tires are not made for speeds much over what the Mule did originally.

Not sure on the older ones but IIRC I think it can be done by changing the CDI.

I believe the 2510 is the same as the 3010 as far as the governor is concerned. Look for the triangular cover where the throttle cable terminates at the engine end.

Hello all. New guy here, long time lurker. Anyway I tried the governor mod that Fuelman did to his trans but with differant results. I have a 2007 3010 with 255 hrs. I didn't GPS it before the gov. mod but I did after and I got a whopping 28.6 MPH out of it on a flat road both ways. I did it just like it was explained. Any ideas???? I have to recheck my airpressure yet and try it again.....Thanks.....Mike

I had my mule up to 74 MPH a while ago, that was on the GPS but the Speedometer on the Tahoe towing it registered 75 while it was inside my enclosed trailer, it makes a difference on the GPS if you are on a steep grade. If you want the Mule to go faster put on a set of 22" wheels and tires, or get a faster tow vehicle....... but watch the top if you haul it on an open trailer

Will modifying the governor shorten the life of the engine?

Question Modification

Fuelman

Does the engine RPM go up or just the transmission speed increase. I own a 610 which does 23 on GPS and would not want the engine to rev over safe RPM. What happened when you put the spring in the hole at 1 inch.

John

The engine rpm's increase when you change the governor to increase speed. The average guy that just points and shoots will roast the engine in short order. The guy that watches how the engine is running to avoid over-speeding the engine itself, and pays particular attention to the details of service and oils will probably never have a problem after modifying the governor.

Default Governor

RCW

I will probably try it out just to see the results, but go back to norman setting since my children and grandkids ride it also. I really have no need for speed but they will point and shoot as you stated.

Thanks

I used the technique that fuleman used on my Mule 610, got it to go 30 sometimes 31 on level ground, I drilled a second hole between that one and the original one to get it around 27, 28 MPH on GPS. Hope this doesn't ruin my motor. seems to run more comfortable at that speed then it did at 25 MPH, much less vibration. How long have you had your Mule adjusted that way Fuelman??
I'll probably to back to regular setting though, I really have no need for those couple more MPH.

Truth is with me i bought a speed kit off of e-bay back in 2005 and have enjoyed the 40+ mph gps'd. I mentioned this awhile ago and was berated. I do as RCW advises in that I don't go long term full out speed and often change the oils and fluids on a regular basis. The mule has been a godsend for me and my hunting partners all over NY state one time hauling 7 hunters and dragging 5 deer. Still no issues with the slight speed adjustments other than a spring i had to finally change out. As has been the issue with mules they're just alittle on the slow side and every now and then we want alittle more speed, mine still handles the loads

This speed kit you bought on eBay , does it work the same way as drilling a new hole in the arm for the spring?
Do you use the stock spring in the new hole?

I am curious too about what exactly is in the kit.
