96 kawasaki bayou 4x4 shifter problems

need some help my shifter when you shift either up or down my shifter falls down to the reverse position and leaves tranny in neutral just a slight touch will return the shifter to the middle position and engage gear any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

One of your springs in the shifter mechanism is broken. Go to kawasaki's main website, then to owner info, then to parts and follow the links for your machine.

You will want to look at the gear change mechanism, and it will show you the three springs that are involved. I suspect it is your "change shift return spring," but open it up and make sure before you order.

The springs are inexpensive and available from the sponsor of this site, and let them know you are a member so you get any discounts.

I have a 89 300 Bayou 4x4 i just bought. When I shift down gears I need to give the shifter a little tap with my foot to get it to go into gear. Never have this problem when shifting up tho. Also, sometime the shifter will drop down to what seems like the reverse position and seem like the bike is in neutral. Any comments would also be appreciated. luv this forum!!!
