Default 96 Bayou 220... still having issues

I posted before about my Bayou not starting and such. So far i have rebuilt the carb and blown it all out thoroughly. I have a Dynojet kit installed also. I got it to run but had erratic idle.. i thought this was the intake elbow gaskets so i replaced those. After much much effort i got it to start and drive the other day. It ran great once it fired off of starting fluid eventually. I shut it off thinking it was just having to get air etc.. out of the carb. Now it wont start at all even with ether/gas. Full throttle/choke/no throttle nothing. It has nice blue spark. Here are the parts i have replaced in the carb area:

Throttle cable cap fitting O-ring, bowl gasket, Choke plunger and Oring, intake fitting gasket and Oring, exhaust collar gaskets. I have the pilot jet set according to my Clymer manual.

My only uncertain thing is that the slide on the carb got a little burred one time trying to install it. In order to make it slide into the carb bore smoothly i had to lightly sand it. Would this be enough to cause an air leak and make it idle erraticly? What about not start at all?

The part im hung up on is that it cant be a timing issue because on the off chance that i do get it running it usually runs ok with no backfire/hesitation. I just cant get it to start even with ether most of the time.

Any thoughts about what to look for in the carb?? I guess this must be where the problem lies?

is that the carb with the adjustablle needle has a circle clip on it and if so were is it set at?if it do have the adjustable needle the circle clip should be in the middle of the 5 rings around the needle and is the air flow screw set up correcttly?hows the compression i think u answered that before i dont remember let us know-corey-

When i installed the jet kit it told me what groove to put the clip on the needle. Its still on that groove. I assume you mean the pilot jet screw on the bottom of the carb? Its set where the manual told me to, i think 1 1/8 turns out?

I never checked the compression. I dont have a tester. But since it runs very well when it runs i assume it is fine.

Went out today and it started right up. It idled high and such still. I readjusted the pilot jet to about 1 3/4 turns out. I drove it around at full throttle, idle, under load etc.. runs fine. It still idles funny at times however.

Could me sanding the burrs off of the slide cause a substantial enough air leak? If it idles up i can just touch the choke to make it stumble so i dont have to jam it into gear. Other times it purrs just fine.

well only if u put deep scratchs on the cylinder what kind of sanding paper did u use to de ber it ?but it shouldnt hurt it unless it was over 220 grit but have u aslo adjusted the main idle screw down to get desired idle? and when it idles funny what does it do go high and low if so spray some carb cleaner around the carb and intake while running and see if the idle drops if so u have a leak this will help pinpoint the air leak and fix the idle issue and maybe take the air screw out 1/4 more and see how it doesand if it helps out take it 1/4 moer out and see if it is still gettting better and if so do it again untill it does not make no more differences -corey-also have you adjusted valve lash on the machine?

I sort of have it figured out. I can start it up cold and it wont idle.. but if i turn up the idle for about 20mins until it warms up i can drive it around fine and turn the idle down to normal level. I sanded the slide with 320 or higher grit. I think i am going to replace it anyway.

I cant imagine where i would have an air leak. All of the hoses are attached and none of them pull air in anyway. I have replaced the gasket and O ring between the carb and head. All clamps are new and tight. The bowl gasket is new and tight. The throttle cap has a new O ring, the choke has a new plunger, cap and o ring. Isnt that all of them?

I have never taken the head off or anything to adjust valves etc.. im afraid to get too in depth and mess something up. This is no Briggs & Stratton here..

well the rubber intake beteewn the head and carb can be slightly cracked or it could be disformed i did the same thing on mine repalce the oring etc still had leak i had enough and ordered the intake boot problem gone it was deformed enough to wizz me off so spray carb cleaner at the boot and the head to check to make sure its a tight seal there and 320 wont hurt that cylinder at all i have done it before and had no problems doin it or any drivablety issues or ya how is the needle is it new or the old one because if the needle is scrtched or slighty bent or damage that to will give you messed up idles -corey-
