That can be the result of any number of causes, but I would check the wiring loom to the instruments, behind the cowl and make sure all your connectors are both clean and lubed with dielectric grease. Go through the entire wiring loom all the way to the battery and the voltage regulator. Also, check your battery to frame ground and the regulator mounting bolt for any rust or corrosion.

more than likely the speed sensor under the clutch cover on the right side of the engine just above rear brake pivot lever....it has 3 wires going to it, and I have seen many of them break
