Default oil being sucked out of motor into air filter box

hi all i hope someone can help on this. i have a 99 praire 400. it will not start it has been sitting for a couple years. it runs on starting fluid. so i assume its not getting gas. i drained old gas out and put fresh in and cleaned carb. when i get it to run on starting fluid oil is pouring into the bottom of air box from intake tube.there is a rubber hose coming off the top of the trans that connects to intake tube.this is where the oil is coming from. anyone know what to do? i need help asap! im going on a riding trip in 5 days

hello drain the oil and put in the correct amount sounds like it may be over filled with oil and or gas mixture oil that hose is just a breather for the case but if its over full on oil itll do that do to crank case psi and also change the filter-corey-

Yup too much oil in the crankcase and may be mixed with old gas.
Avoid starting fluid, not good for the engine if you can.

after you rebuilt the carb you still have to use either to start it up?if so you may want to do a compression test on ths motor being it sat for a couple of years the fuel may be goin right past the rings and and getting into the crank case thus over filling it when a motor sets for a few years it creates rust in the cylinder and the rings will stick in side the piston and not create a proper seal and then when the motor is turned over itll break the rings some times but more the piston wall is scored and or pitted due to rust so id do a compression test also 120 and over is ok any lower you have a problem and will ahve to take the motor down and inspect and the valve also do the same thing with the rustin itll pit the valve seats and cause comp loss and or poor performace -corey-

actually i checked the oil it is actually a little on the low side. so im still stumped on the oil problem.as far as the gas goes i think im going to try going through the carb one more time. i dont think the cylinder is getting any gas. i cranked the engine over alot enuff that it should have flooded. i pulled out the spark plug and it was completely dry. and i do have the gas valve on. i didnt forget that.when i first started it it ran for a min like enuff to drain the carb then quit. then wouldnt start so thats why i think its not getting gas.it does have spark

If you have not overfilled the oil, I would suspect the rings are frozen to the piston and you are getting excessive compression forced in to the crankcase. That will blow the oil out of the vent and fill the air filter housing quickly.

Follow the instructions on the previous post regarding performing a compression test. If you have low compression, then I would look for frozen rings.

If the rig sat for a couple years and the rings froze into the grooves on the piston, you may be able to wet soak the piston overnight with a product like PB Blaster and get the rings to free up. If the rings are frozen and this does not break them loose, it will be necessary to disassemble the top end and pull the piston.

You will need to run the piston to the bottom of its stroke and then add at least a quarter cup of PB Blaster (that is just about the full contents of a spray can after the propellant is exhausted). Then put the spark plug back in and work the crankshaft just enough to slide the piston up and down a very small amount. You do not want to roll it over enough to force the oil out the exhaust valves, so just rock it. Then let it set overnight, or better yet for two nights. Then pull the plug and clean out the excessive PB Blaster and rinse out the excessive oil in the bore with a few shots of starting fluid. Then let it dry, put the plug in and try to start it.

If it starts it will smoke heavily for a few minutes, then once it warms fully it should break the rings free. Leave the excess PB Blaster in the engine oil that drained past the rings, and run at least two hours with a load (ride it), then do a compression test and if OK, change the oil. It will be good to go.

well first thing you will need is a mnaual for rebuild procedures but you will need gasket kit rings possialbe piston depending of the cylinder needs bored out which is a high probabilty take the jug to a machine shop and let them do what they do best and also have em fit the piston and rings for you so all you have to do is put it back together and just remember this when you have new rings you have to run the motor fatter/richer on fuel to help the break in process if the motor is run to lean on fuel after rebuild itll burn the rings up get a manual itll tell you all u need to know to bebuild this machine-corey-
